Edward Jones
I have been engaged as a UX consultant at Edward Jones on two separate occasions; previously as a researcher, and most recently as a designer.
Design
Establishing UX Design on a New Product Team
I joined a team with limited prior exposure to UX, which had recently made the transition to Agile methodology. As processes and best practices were starting to take place, I took the lead in establishing the UX design and research presence. This included:
-
Orchestrated UX planning, including story-mapping and Jira integration for the team
-
Educated the team and leaders on UX principles and ways of working
-
Established several recurring meetings to sync, refine and review UX work
-
Gathered, analyzed and organized 10+ years of prior product documentation
From Legacy Tool to Leader in Mobile
Upon joining the team, I recognized the need for a structured approach to modernizing our legacy tools.
-
Initiated the systematic approach to modernization by creating Figma files where I began to lay out the framework of all of our tools, providing a visual foundation for our projects.
-
Successfully advocated for our team to be one of the first products to build fully-responsive mobile-first products.
Six months into the redesign we earned high praise from stakeholders and began strategizing on ways to expand our users' mobile access to adjacent products in the near future.
UX Design Strategy & Team Management
-
Collaborated with product leaders and designers across the portfolio to establish a shared understanding of our goals.
-
Served as a team manager for several Daugherty UX consultants engaged at Edward Jones.
-
Provided guidance, support, and acted as an intermediary for UX awareness between unrelated teams.
Research
UX Research Restructure
-
Restructured the UX research framework, placing equal importance on research events, analysis, and insight sharing.
-
Established a balanced cadence for short and long-term research initiatives.
-
Implemented standardized communication processes to enhance transparency, alignment, and accountability between sub-product teams, ensuring goal alignment across the product portfolio.
Research Sessions
I employed several research methods to maximize the value of the time I was able to spend with users. These methods included:
-
Focus groups
-
User interviews
-
Moderated and unmoderated usability testing
-
Card sorts, A-B testing and "dream state" drag and drop sessions
-
Satisfaction surveys, feedback generation
Data & Analytics
I implemented Pendo, an analytics app, by embedding the tool in our product code and working with the team to determine goals using the Google H.E.A.R.T. framework and other methods. I leveraged my design experience to identify, tag and track less-intuitive areas in our tool (such as headings that could be mistaken for links) which exposed several key usability flaws in our designs. I combined Pendo and Google Analytics to deliver actionable usage data to the team on a weekly basis.
